The library of the Jewish Community of Munich and Upper Bavaria is one of the most important Jewish special libraries in the German-speaking world. Its origins date back to the early 20th century, when Rabbi Cossmann Werner donated his private collection to the community. After destruction during the Nazi period and the arson attack of 1970, the collection was carefully rebuilt and now comprises around 30,000 volumes, including rare and restituted works.

As part of a digitization project, the entire collection is being catalogued and made accessible online. This enables provenance research, the identification of looted works, and the lasting preservation of Jewish cultural heritage.

The Ilse Blank-Mezger-Hesselberger Foundation supports this initiative, contributing to the safeguarding and transmission of Jewish history and culture in Munich.
