„Flesh love All“ by PHOTOGRAPHER HAL

The photo artist Haruhiko Kawaguchi, the PHOTOGRAPHER HAL, born in Tokyo in 1971, has made love and attachment the central theme of his work in his conceptual art. In his series “Flesh Love All”, couples and their surroundings are completely wrapped in transparent film and photographed in this composition: a symbol of maximum intimacy and boundless connection with the world is created.

At the invitation of the Blank Art Foundation, in July 2023 PHOTOGRAPHER HAL realised a three-day “Flesh Love All” session in the Schwabing district of Munich: it was his first work of this kind outside Japan. In this large-scale project, the artist enveloped five war refugees from Ukraine, who were temporarily living here, together with the Blank House and parts of its garden. In this particular context, the photographic snapshots reflect a sense of connection and protection in equal measure, unfolding an expanded dimension in the artist’s work.

“A metaphor of protecting them has emerged.” (PHOTOGRAPHER HAL, July 2023).

The Blank Art Foundation covered the entire production costs and also purchased a picture from the limited edition prints. It will be exhibited at the Blank House in future.
