With around 2,500 members, the Jewish Community of Nuremberg is one of the largest Jewish congregations in Bavaria. Its cemetery on Schnieglinger Straße, opened in 1910, remains an active place of remembrance and religious practice.
At the centre of the site is the listed funeral hall designed by architect Emil Hecht – a notable example of early 20th-century architecture and a key monument of Jewish burial culture in Franconia.
After more than a century, the building shows significant structural damage, making comprehensive restoration necessary.
The Ilse Blank-Mezger-Hesselberger Foundation contributes substantially to the restoration, helping to preserve an important site of Jewish history, culture, and religious life in Nuremberg.
